Shared and dedicated servers perform the same function, but both are different in terms of services. Shared servers are those servers in which a server is shared to another company. Dedicated servers ae those servers where a user do not share its server with any other company.

In shared server, users share its resources, and have partial control over the server. In the dedicated server, a user has full control over its resources. People often get confused while selecting a best server for their company. Here, we have given some difference between shared and dedicated servers which will help you choose the correct server for your company:

Key difference between shared and dedicated server:

In shared hosting, other websites also use the server along with the main user website. But in the dedicated hosting server, only one user can use the server.

In shared hosting user gets a limited amount of disk space and bandwidth because of sharing the server with other websites. A user will be charged extra if he or she crosses the usage limit, but with the dedicated server, bandwidth and disk space is fixed for one website.

In shared server hosting, resources of the server are shared with several users, so costs of operating the server are divided among different users. Thus it makes shared hosting cheaper. But the dedicated server is used by one user, it is expensive than shared hosting.

In shared hosting, a user depends on shared server provider for any technical issue, maintenance, and server security. But in a dedicated server, a user need technical skills to operate and manage the dedicated server.

In shared hosting, a user install firewalls and other security software and programs, because multiple users use same server so there is more chance of getting viruses. But in dedicated server, user is responsible for installing and managing anti security to the server. There is less chance of getting viruses. In shared server, there is more chance of getting blacklisted of the website, which is not possible in the dedicated server until an unethical act is done by the user.

Due to sharing of the server in shared hosting, a lot of traffic on server slows down the uploading time. But uploading time is fast on dedicated servers. There is more control over resources of the dedicated server than in shared server. Dedicated server is flexible where a user can add any programs or install applications. Server hosting type depends on the need of the user and his budget. So choose your hosting type according to your website use and requirements
